Refurbished Items: High Value and Savings

I am a person who is a fan of high value savings and I also love electronics and gadgets. I have figured out a way to combine these two things by shopping for those electronics that have awesome deals on them. Refurbished consumer goods are those consumer goods that have both these things and i have managed to save loads of cash when buying things for personal and business use.

Apart from really great prices that can be anything between from 20% to 50% off and you also get the full warranties on them making refurbished electronics much better than those that have been regularly priced.

Refurbished goods are different from Used Ones

The first misconception about refurbished tablets and consumer electronics is that they are used ones and they may not last very long. This is far from the truth, all refurbished goods are always new and unused and they have their full warranty period. So you can get brand new gadgets from the top brands at the fraction of the price. Isn’t that a good deal?

What to look for in Electronic Items

When are products labeled as refurbished? We always notice the price on any Smartphone and certain electronics can be sold at very high discounts as they are refurbished. Refurbished mobile phones are those that the store or the consumer has returned as they were not happy with it for some reason. These cannot be sold as new items as their original packaging has been opened so they are sold as refurbished ones. Each refurbished smart phone will have a different discount on them; these are due to various reasons such as:

Returns from Customers:  By law, customer returns can’t be sold as new ones. These are first tested before they are resold and they do come with full warranty.

Demonstration Models:    Certain stores will use actual products as floor models or for demonstration purposes. These too are never sold as brand new but as refurbished goods instead. These too also come with full warranty.

Damaged carton / Open box goods:       Stores will also not sell those goods whose cartons have been damaged or those that are unboxed mobile phones. These items are also not sold by stores as new, even if the product has not been physically removed or used in any way.

Factory Refurbishments:  Items that undergo servicing or repairs are also returned to the manufacturer, these undergo extensive testing before they are resold.

Shipping Damages:             The exterior of any products will have scratches or dents on them, but they still function like new products. These items also fall into the refurbished category.

Factory Seconds:    Even minor defects such as cosmetic ones on products mean that they are rejected at the production level. These are small defects that don’t affect how well the products functions. Production defects can affect even entire batches of products; they are first tested, repaired and then resold as refurbished items.

Overstocked Items:                        These items are sold as refurbished ones so that stores can clear up their inventory for new models or the more popular ones.

What Kind of Warranty can you expect from Refurbished consumer electronics?

All reconditioned items will come with full manufacturer’s warranty. In this case, the authorized dealers will not give their own warranty or will give a reduced warranty instead. Some authorized dealers will also offer you service packages instead, so always check what kind of warranty you will get.

Returns Policy:       Each store will have their returns policies. In some cases, you have free returns will full refunds while others offer only replacements. Then there are many retailers that will charge you a restocking fee for any returns.

Where you can find Refurbished Items:                      Retailers: There are many retailers that only specialize in refurbished items. The offer that they have may vary from time to time, so it is up to you to find out the best deals.

Online Retailers:    There are an even bigger number of online outlets for refurbished goods such as Gobol, Togofogo and Greendust. I have bought many things from TogoFogo.com and am very happy with the savings that i got from them.

Manufacturers:       Many manufacturers also refurbish the goods that they produce and sell. Many of the bigger names like Dell, Apple sell refurbished goods directly through their own websites. Their inventory of goods will change often and so you will have to check every now and then.
